Athletics is on the rise on the field, the court, the course and the track.
Tulane has realized success by its teams on the playing field and by its student-athletes
in the classroom, positioning Green Wave Athletics at one of the highest points
in its history.
Boasting one of the oldest and most storied athletic programs in the Southeast,
and indeed the nation, Tulane will field seven men's and nine women's teams in
2004-05, having re-added men's outdoor track and field to the Green Wave sports
line-up after a successful campaign to reach its gender equity goals.
Tulane student-athletes have proven to be leaders on the field, in the classroom
and in the community. Tulane ranks among the elite teams in Conference USA in
NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) championship appearances and conference
championships (see box) and has produced more All-Americans and national award
winners in the last five years than at any time in its first century.
In addition, Tulane student-athletes have compiled more than 800 hours of community
service with such organizations as the Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity.
Whether working at summer camps, hosting a group of middle-schoolers or helping
at a charity function, Tulane student-athletes are reaching out. The 2003-04 season
was perhaps one of the best in the long-storied annals of Tulane Athletics, as
the Green Wave once again brought distinction to the university, the city and
the state. For the second straight year, Tulane ranked second among all Conference
USA schools, and 77th among more than 320 programs nationwide, in the United States
Sports Academy Director's Cup standings. Tulane

our student-athletes as people and productive citizens. The CHAMPS/Life Skills
Program provides the framework to accomplish this goal.
